Here's a poem my 14 year old sister wrote for her class. It's about Soldier Josh Dingler, 19, whom went to Hiram High School and was killed in Iraq recently. She was hand-picked to read this poem to the entire school...

An Unforgotten Loss
A man of complexity
His strength he would prove.
His commitment, admired
By family and crew.
The path he had chosen
Not one of contentment.
Serves his country with honor,
Not a seed of resentment.
He carries his burden
With conviction and truth.
Leaving behind all
The innocence of youth.
The respect of his men
Has been rightfully earned.
With hard work on his mind,
And the lessons he’s learned.
His family, proud
Of the man he has become,
Await his return
When his service is done.
His sacrifice is greater
Than others could know.
While he fights for our freedom
Our support will grow.
Pictures and letters
That are wrinkled and torn,
Reminders to him of
All he’s fighting for.
The price he has paid
Was his choice alone.
He loved God and his country,
His family and home.
You may not know him quite well,
But he’s like many others
Whose story I tell.
Each one is important
As those who procedded
If we all stand behind them,
They can’t all be defeated.
